About T. Edward Vives
T. Edward Vives musical journey commenced in Auburn, Alabama. At 4, he began piano lessons with Edgar and Dorothy Glyde, nurturing an early passion for music. As he progressed through public school, his interests evolved into trombone performance and music composition, shaping his future in the musical arts.
Studied Years and Early Career
His academic path led him to Florida State University, earning bachelor's degrees in Composition and Music Education. Under John Boda's and Charles Carter's mentorship, he refined his composing skills, while William Cramer and John Drew guided his trombone performance. James Croft played a pivotal role in his conducting studies. His commitment to his craft culminated in a Master of Music in Composition and Music Theory, followed by a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Florida.
Award-Winning Achievements
As the Musical and Artistic Director of the Los Alamos Community Winds, Ted has led the ensemble to significant achievements, including being a finalist and first runner-up in the American Prize, Community Wind Ensemble Division 2012. His compositions have been celebrated globally, winning accolades like the North Cheshire 2003 Composition Competition. Recognized as the Commissioned Composer for the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico in 2003 and 2010, Ted earned the 2011 American Prize in Composition (Choral Division) and third place in the 2015 American Prize in Conducting.

Numerous artistic and academic roles mark His professional journey. He has served as the State Composition Chair for the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico and as the Artistic and Musical Director for the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra in Show Low, AZ. His professional affiliations include Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, and the National Band Association.
